Cheshire-based artist, John Walsh, is an oil painter whose subject matter is nature, in all its beauty, depicted with the emphasis on colour and light. His work is refteshingly simple and accessible. He records what he sees; a butterfly feeding on a flower. a ripe crop in a country field or a tranquil river walk. He sees to evoke the same raw emotion, which he experienced when creating his work, in his view.

Although drawing is an important part of his technique, it is the adept application of oil paint, and scintillating colour which recreates the atmosphere of a scene and achieves this effect.

John has had work accepted by the Royal Academy, been commended by E.A.C and has two portraits on permanent exhibition at Arnham War Museum, Holland. The painting ‘The President and the Survivor’ was accepted by the American Embassy, to go on permanent display in New York. For the past 10 years, John has donated many paintings to charities, nursing homes. and hospitals in the North West.

John's work is held in collections throughout the UK and in Holland, South Africa, Spain and the USA.

John is a member of the New Manchester Group of artists.

Speaking about his work, John says:

My involvement in art and painting started in the early 70's with an old, black and white building. When the building was totally renovated it opened as The Weaver Gallery, in the village of Weaverham in Cheshire. The gallery was, and still is a successful gallery and art shop. My involvement in the gallery ceased in the late 80's, due to full time employment as a director of a major building company.

I have always drawn and with my building and architectural background, along with an interest in artists and art, art was always going to play a major role in my life. In 1994 1 started to paint full time and took early retirement. From 1994 until 1999 I developed my skill and sold in local exhibitions. From 1999 I have painted or drawn each day and now I hope I am developing my style.
