Anna-Lisa Coleman is an artist living in mid Wales. She is trully passionate about nature and her connection to Mother Earth, this being the underlying theme explored in her paintings. She was born in north London in 1971. Visits to her grandparents home in the tiny country village of Virkkala in southern Finland instilled a deep rooted passion for nature and Nordic mysticism, which she shared with her Finnish mother whom was also a painter.
Having studied art and design at Barnet college and Southgate college, Anna-Lisa later achieved a BA (Hons) in Printed Textiles & Decoration from Middlesex University in London 1995. A flourishing career as a community artist followed with ad hoc commissions for costumes and props for television and theatre.
However, yearning for peace and serendipity in nature prompted her move to a farm in Herefordshire in 2003 where Anna-Lisa focussed on painting. She achieved her Post Graduate Certificate in Education and Training from University of Wales, Newport, whilst teaching at Hereford College of Arts. In the summer of 2007 she came to live in mid Wales on a working sheep farm in the hills of Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain. The following year she initiated the Llanwrtyd Wells Art Class; 'Parish Arts', a community art club. Anna-Lisa also hosts and tutors individually tailored drawing days in the landscape for visitors to Llanwrtyd Wells as part of an Activity Breaks in Wales package. She also works to commission, usually in oils, acrylics or watercolours.
Geographically Llanwrtyd Wells lies at the centre of one of the last remaining wild areas in Britain. Mountains, forests, hidden valleys and streams form a landscape which is habitat to many species of rare plant life, birds and insects. Anna-Lisa's paintings are inspired by the Llanwrtyd Wells motto 'Peace amidst beauty', the enchanting Welsh landscape surrounding her homestead in the hills between the Cambrian Mountains and the Epynt mixed with meditation, moods and memories from her childhood and travels. These images attempt to celebrate wildlife within the transient elements and magical landscapes that hold purity and mystery.
